Aboriginal Cultural Festival June 16-18, 2017

An upcoming event in Victoria, BC to take advantage of, is the Aboriginal Cultural Festival.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations of British Columbia.

This year’s Aboriginal Cultural Festival takes place Friday, June 16 until Sunday, June 18 in Victoria, B.C at the Royal BC Museum.  This is in many ways a celebration of the diverse cultural of the First Nations people across British Columbia. A large number of performers will provide entertainment including the three-time world champion hoop dancer Alex Wells from the Lil’wat Nation as well as numerous other incredible performers.  another performing group is the Le-La-La Dancers from the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation, lead by George Taylor.

In 2016, the festival provided a great event for more than 15,000 people, indicative of the powerful draw to aboriginal heritage and culture as well as food and art.

In addition to the main stage performances the Aboriginal Cultural Festival will feature an Authentic Indigenous Arts Marketplace and an outdoor dining area where visitors can sample and purchase a wide variety of traditional and modern fare including West Coast clam chowder, fry-bread, and BBQ sockeye salmon. The festival is an excellent experience for locals and visitors to enjoy.

We hope you can get out to enjoy the festival in Victoria’s Inner Harbour.  The active harbour provides some beautiful scenery with numerous tourism events, hotels, shops, restaurants and easy access to the historic downtown district.
